How do you get to Phi Phi Island?

It is every tourist dream to tour Phi Phi Island. The island features turquoise seas, white soft sandy tropical beaches, and spectacular rock formations. They’re just a handful of the many aspects that the Koh Phi Phi in Thailand draws visitors from around the world.

Phi Phi is featured in movies showing all its beauty, which seems too fantastic for real life.

The best tips to visit Phi Phi Don in low season

There are essentially two ways of getting to Phi Phi: ferries or speedboats.

The ferry is what I always used to reach the islands, and it is also the most popular way to get to Phi Phi. Ferries from Phuket take about two hours, and from Krabi or Koh Lanta takes about 90 minutes. Phuket’s main port of departure/arrival is Rassada Pier in Phuket City.

Klong Jirad Pier is the principal ferry pier in Krabi, located just south of Krabi City.

  • A one-hour drive from Phuket Airport is the ferry terminal

  • Krabi’s ferry terminal is 30 minutes from Krabi Airport.

During high season it is important to arrive like a half-hour before departure to get good seats.

You have to get to one of these two piers to take the ferry to Phi Phi if you’re traveling from Bangkok. You will need to take a taxi or a local bus to get to the ferry terminal after you arrive at the airport or the Bokoso (inter-city bus station).

Generally, traveling to Phi Phi Island allows you to combine various travel choices, such as getting on a plane or a bus, and then taking a ferry.

However, these trips can be booked separately, simply purchasing a single ticket [also called a joint ticket] that covers the entire journey wherever possible is the most effective way.

The most important thing to note is that you have to make all your reservations in advance [at least a few days in advance] to make sure you can reserve space on ferry or bus.

This is particularly important during the high season, from November to April, when many visitors travel to Thailand and, in particular, to the islands.

Due to the current high demand, it is best to check the schedules and book your boat from Phuket to Phi Phi in advance and get good seats at least 30 minutes to an hour before departure.

It takes about two hours of traveling from Rassada Pier via ferry. You can take the speedboat from the Rassada Pier if you’d rather shorten your travel time.
