8:00 am – Pick up from your hotel in Chiang Mai. Meet your guide and driver and head north towards Mae Taeng.
9:30 am – Arrive at Mae Taeng Elephant Camp. Learn about these gentle giants and their history in Thailand. Feed and interact with the elephants. Take a 30-minute elephant ride through the jungle and bamboo forests.

Mae Taeng Elephant Camp is an elephant park and clinic located in the Maetaman Valley in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The park is situated on the banks of the Maetaeng River and is home to a number of well-cared-for elephants. Visitors can interact with the elephants by washing and feeding them, as well as watching elephant shows, and going on elephant treks. The park is located on the same route as Tha Phae Ban Mae Tamaan and is approximately 9 kilometers from the entrance. It is also opposite the Mae Tamaan temple.
- The camp opened in 1991 and is one of the most well-known elephant camps in northern Thailand. It covers over 100 acres of land.
- They currently care for around 92 elephants at the camp, most of which were rescued from illegal logging operations. The elephants receive excellent care from mahouts and veterinarians.
- The camp offers several programs for visitors to interact with the elephants. The most popular is bathing the elephants in the river. Visitors can help scrub and care for the elephants. There is also elephant shows and performances.
- Riding programs are available, but the camp focuses more on educational, ethical interactions. Treks range from 30 mins to overnight stays in hillside cabins with the elephants.
- Other amenities include a swimming pool, restaurant, souvenir shop and camp lodgings. The scenery surrounding the camp is beautiful countryside.
- The camp has earned numerous awards for sustainable tourism over the years. Revenue helps fund the on-site elephant hospital and conservation efforts.
- It’s located in the Mae Taeng valley, about 60km north of Chiang Mai city. The route is scenic but winding mountain roads. Wt.
