The ferry is what I always used to reach the islands, and it is also the most popular way to get to Phi Phi. Ferries from Phuket take about two hours, and from Krabi or Koh Lanta takes about 90 minutes. Phuket’s main port of departure/arrival is Rassada Pier in Phuket City.

You have to get to one of these two piers to take the ferry to Phi Phi if you’re traveling from Bangkok. You will need to take a taxi or a local bus to get to the ferry terminal after you arrive at the airport or the Bokoso (inter-city bus station).
Generally, traveling to Phi Phi Island allows you to combine various travel choices, such as getting on a plane or a bus, and then taking a ferry.
However, these trips can be booked separately, simply purchasing a single ticket [also called a joint ticket] that covers the entire journey wherever possible is the most effective way.
The most important thing to note is that you have to make all your reservations in advance [at least a few days in advance] to make sure you can reserve space on ferry or bus.
This is particularly important during the high season, from November to April, when many visitors travel to Thailand and, in particular, to the islands.
