But Pattaya’s resort town has always been popular with Thai people and tourists, providing a quick and easy escape from the capital’s noise.

It’s known for its wide range of attractions; Pattaya once attracted a generally younger crowd, but with so much to see and do. It is now becoming more of a family-friendly destination with a zoo, Water Park, tropical gardens, go-karting, beaches, and cultural sites.

Koh Chang Attractions and Things to Do

There are many taxi operating companies in Pattaya, but one of those reputable tour companies is Glassflower.

This company offers private cars and VIP vans, which will pick you up from any Pattaya hotel and drive you to the ferry terminal.

By selecting this route, you’ll get to ride relatively comfortably from Pattaya for the duration of the trip, a drive that should take about 4 hours.

Another bonus is that you’re paying for the entire vehicle, so you’re not going to share with people you don’t know, and you’re not going to have to stop to pick up passengers.

  • The biggest disadvantage, of course, is the cost, with a 9-passenger van costing more than a private car.
  • If you’re traveling in a group, though, the 9-passenger van might be a good option as you’re going to split the cost between you all.

Still, there are only two different companies providing ferries to Koh Chang, the other being Centerpoint.

From Koh Chang to Pattaya

They leave from different piers

So, if you’re looking for looking to arrive on time, stick with Ferry Koh Chang as the ferries are quicker and take about half an hour to get there departing every 45 minutes between 6:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Their ferries take about an hour if you choose to ride with Centrepoint, and they leave every hour between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. With both firms, the costs for foot travelers are the same.

Taking a private taxi or minibus to the Koh Chang ferry terminals from your hotel or residence in Pattaya would cost between 2,500 and 3,500 baht for a car carrying three passengers, and between 3,500 and 4,500 baht for a minibus, depending on who you book.

Speed boat from Pattaya to Koh Chang

Koh Chang boat is by far the comfortable and safe way to travel between the Koh Chang, Koh Kood, Koh Mak and Koh Wai tropical islands, which are all situated in the Ko Chang archipelago.

If you go from any beach, hotel or guesthouse on Koh Chang to your private resort on Koh Kood Island in just 70-90 minutes, or to one of the many family resorts on Koh Mak in just 45-60 minutes, you get to experience the thrill of traveling by fast speed-boat.

Koh Chang’s speed-boats will also make regular stops at Koh Wai, Koh Kham, and Koh Rayang if there are passengers to drop off or pick up on these quiet and laid-back islands between Koh Mak and Koh Chang.

They provide regular bus service from Koh Chang to Koh Kood for most of the high season, usually running from October 31st to the first week of May, with potential stops along the way at Koh Wai, Koh Kham, Koh Rayang and Koh Mak.

As the seas appear to be calm in the morning, departure times are set at 09:00, but if the weather determines this, you reserve the right to depart later.

Even they offer services with almost every size of speed-boat in Koh Chang for a party or private transfers.

They’ve got speed-boats that suit your needs.

Nonetheless, for the frequent transfers, tend to use the boat that you can see in the last image on the right, but it may be switched out with one of our many other boats when it receives routine maintenance, or they are larger than an average number of passers-by.

Koh Chang to Bangkok

You can board the bus for 7 hours, get on a flight for 2 hours, or take a taxi for 4-5 hours to ride the 350 km journey from Koh Chang to Bangkok. At just 2 hours, taking a flight is the fastest option, including transfers.

But we do not recommend that you fly at short distances because it is very unsustainable. You can as well as ta a taxi to any part of Bangkok from Trat. If you’re traveling with a small group, a3-seater taxi costs around $130, not bad.

From Koh Chang to Pattaya

Koh Chang to Bangkok by Bus

You can reserve a combined bus and ferry ticket online from Koh Chang to Bangkok for as little as 630 THB ($21) for a trouble-free ride.

With this option, you’ll take a ferry to Trat from Koh Chang, where a bus is already waiting to take you to Bangkok.

This path includes 2 well-known companies.

Travel Mart

  • Departs from Koh Chang’s Ao Sapparot Pier
  • Arrives at the Chao Fa Road Travel Mart Station, just a 10-minute taxi ride or a walk to Khao San Street.

Thai Sriram

  • Departs from Koh Chang’s Ferry Center Point
  • Reaches 169 Chakrabongse Avenue, a 5-minute walk from Khao San.

When you head straight to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport, you can take the Suvarnabhumi Burapha Bus, which departs from Koh Chang’s Klong Son bus station.

From Koh Chang to Pattaya

Koh Chang to Bangkok by flight 

After your ferry trip from Koh Chang to Trat, you will need to arrange a transfer from the pier to the airport. For this part of the voyage, you should take a songthaew.

They would take care of your transfer from Koh Chang to the airport if you purchased a minibus round trip transfer.

We recommend that you request your hotel to help arrange your transfers, especially if you are carrying big bags.

It may be a bit expensive, but you won’t have to deal with the hassle of haggling taxis or packing luggage in and out of busy songthaews.

Flight fares from Koh Chang to Bangkok (through Trat) commence at THB 2,150 ($71). Four daily flights depart at 10:00, 13:10, 16:25, and 18:30, and flying to Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) takes only about 1 hour.

Koh Chang to Bangkok by Taxi

If you prefer taking the taxi from Trat, make sure to book with a taxi company in advance.

That way, when you arrive at the pier in Trat, you will have a car waiting for you. You can also ask to have your hotel book a car, or you can call a local travel agency.

For the journey back to Bangkok, taxis and rented cars can cost about 4,000 THB ($132) when booking through your hotel or a local agency.

You can also book a taxi online for a 3-seater car via Klook for 4.320 THB ($143). If you are carrying little luggage, this can also accommodate up to 4 people.

Pattaya to Trat (than take a ferry to Koh Chang from Trat)

Step 1: Koh Chang to Trat by Ferry

You’ll need to go to the Koh Chang pier first; you can catch a nearby songthaew or motorbike taxi along the main road for around THB 60 ($2).

For an adult ticket, the ferry ride costs 80 THB ($2.10). Below we give you the ferry schedules to guide you on your journey.

Try to catch on an early ferry, so when you arrive at the pier, you can catch the connecting bus.

Centerpoint Pier ferries only depart for the low season at 09:30, 10:45, and 12:30, with the afternoon schedules staying the same.

Step 2: Trat to Bangkok by Bus

Before 14:00, it is best to be in Trat so that you can catch the #999 bus that passes by the pier.

This bus has two daily trips, and Trat departs at 14:00 and 16:00. Only the 14:00 bus journey passes through both piers.

You can pay in at the terminal for the bus ride. The price for the bus is 240 THB ($8), and you are required to pay the ticket seller a 15 THB ($0.50) fee.

If you miss the 14:00 trip, you’ll need to take a songthaew to the Trat bus terminal.

Busses depart from the terminal every hour, charging 250 THB ($8.20). Bus #999 drops off passengers in Ekkmai, Bangkok’s Eastern Bus Terminal.

From Utapao airport to Koh Chang

Thailand is one of the most advanced airport countries in the world. This is in terms of how they are created, how they are easily accessed, and how they are given.

One such airport is Pattaya Airport, also known as Utapao International Airport. It’s UTP code that’s IATA.

The airport has an International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) certification, which means it meets all international standards set.

There is no direct connection to Koh Chang Tai from the airport.

But you may take a bus to the Trat Bus Station, or take the Minivan to Ao Thammachat Pier, or take a ferry to Koh Chang. Taxis will charge you at around 3,200 baht.

The time differs according to which means you use to get from Pattaya to Koh Chang. The flight takes a duration of 2 hours, Taxi 5 – 6 hours, and bus 7 hours.
